The Sewing Club Workshop

Bought a sewing machine but still not sure what all those buttons, stitches and settings actually do? Or maybe you’ve been wanting to learn how to sew but have no idea where to start.

 This 4-hour, hands-on sewing workshop is designed to help you become comfortable with a sewing machine and understand the basics of sewing without feeling overwhelmed.

You’ll learn by actually using a machine, practicing the fundamentals, asking questions and getting guidance throughout the workshop.

You’ll learn:

The different parts of a sewing machine & what they do
How to thread a sewing machine
How to wind and insert a bobbin
How to properly place and remove fabric
How to start and stop sewing
How to sew straight lines
How to sew around corners and curves
How to backstitch and secure your seams
How to choose and adjust basic stitch settings
How to troubleshoot some common beginner sewing problems
And other little things that will make using your machine much less intimidating

You’ll have time to practice each skill yourself, rather than simply watching me demonstrate it.

 You do not need to own a sewing machine to attend.

Sewing machines will be available for you to use during the workshop.

However, if you already own a machine and want to finally learn how to use your own machine, you’re more than welcome to bring it!

This can be especially helpful if you’ve had your machine sitting at home and haven’t been sure how to use it.

We’re not spending four hours just practicing stitches!

At the end of the workshop, you’ll use the skills you’ve learned to make a simple sewing project.

I’m keeping the project a surprise so you can discover it during the workshop. 

Don’t worry, it will be beginner-friendly and achievable within the workshop.

The goal is for you to leave with something you’ve actually made yourself and, hopefully, a little more confidence than you walked in with.

This workshop is perfect for you if:

• You’ve never used a sewing machine before
• You own a sewing machine but don’t know how to use it
• Your sewing machine has been sitting unused
• You’ve forgotten everything you learned years ago
• You’re nervous about breaking your machine
• You want to understand what your machine can actually do
• You want to learn the basics before attempting sewing projects at home

No previous sewing experience is required.

You don’t need to know how to thread a machine, read a pattern or sew a straight line.

That’s what we’re here to learn.

⏰ WORKSHOP LENGTH: 4 hours

This is a hands-on workshop, so please arrive on time. We’ll be learning progressively throughout the session, and arriving late may mean missing some of the foundational instructions.

📍 2 Dates. 2 Locations.

The same workshop will be offered on two different dates at two different locations, one week apart.

Choose whichever session is most convenient for you when booking.

Session 1 is in Kingston at 14 Roselle Avenue Saturday November 7th and session 2 is in Ocho Rios at the Redemption Group in Content Gardens  

Please make sure you select the correct date and location when booking.

What should I bring? 

If you’re using one of the sewing machines provided, you’ll only need to bring yourself, your questions and a willingness to learn. 

If you’re bringing your own sewing machine, please bring the machine with its power cord and foot pedal.

If you wanna take notes, bring a notebook. If you like snacking while you work and learn, bring your favorite snack and something to drink.

By the end of our four hours together, I want you to feel less intimidated by your sewing machine and more confident about sitting down at home and actually using it.

You won’t become an expert sewist in four hours and that’s not the goal.

The goal is to give you a solid foundation so that when you look at your sewing machine, you think:

“Okay. I know what I’m doing now.”
